Frequently Asked Questions

1. Who manages the rights to the tracks generated by MoosBox AI Studio?

Tracks generated by MoosBox AI Studio are managed by MoosBox through direct licensing, internal documentation and traceability systems. Some tracks may be produced with the support of external tools, but they are selected, checked and documented by MoosBox before being added to the platform. In case of inspection, we can provide documentation relating to the licence and traceability of the content.

2. Do I need PRS for Music or PPL if I use MoosBox?

No. For the tracks covered by your MoosBox direct licence, you do not need to pay PRS for Music or PPL again. Our catalogue includes original tracks and licensed works with direct, non-exclusive agreements, fully compliant with EU Directive 2014/26/EU, the ASCAP Compendium (Section 1.3) and the UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. Your Licence Certificate is always available in your Manager Area and can be shown during any inspection.

3. What is the difference between royalty-free music and fully licensed music?

The term “royalty-free” is often used in a broad way and may have different meanings depending on the context, platform or type of licence.

For MoosBox, the key point is direct licensing: music content provided by the platform is selected, documented and made available for use in commercial spaces under the contractual terms of the service.

This is why we refer to it as fully licensed music: not “music without rights”, but content covered by direct licensing, traceable documentation and a Licence Certificate available to the customer.

4. Where can I download my MoosBox Direct License?

You can always download your up-to-date MoosBox Direct License from your Manager Profile at my.moosbox.com.
Original tracks produced by MoosBox with AI technology are registered with a timestamp system to ensure traceability.
Tracks licensed through an independent Collector are covered by direct and non-exclusive agreements, fully compliant with the EU Directive 2014/26/EU and the ASCAP Compendium: the chain of authorization is verifiable.
Keep a printed or digital copy of your license easily accessible on your premises: in case of any inspection or claim, you can prove your full legal coverage and that no double payment applies.
Remember: tools like Shazam are not legally valid evidence.

In the meantime, in the FAQ “Where can I download my MoosBox Direct License?” you can already add the Terms and Conditions link.

5. How can I prove that my MoosBox licence is valid?

You can prove it through the Licence Certificate available in your MoosBox Manager Profile, together with the contractual documentation and invoices relating to the active service.

In case of inspection, do not make any payment or sign any agreement on the spot: always request a written report and send it to MoosBox for the necessary checks. The documentation available in the Manager Profile allows you to demonstrate the coverage of MoosBox content under the applicable contractual terms. Every customer has a copy of the licence available in their profile my.moosbox.com → Documents. In addition: ✅ MoosBox original tracks are registered with timestamps and traceability systems. ✅ Tracks licensed directly are covered by non-exclusive agreements with the rights holders. ✅ The inspection procedure is clear: no signature or payment on the spot, written report, and send everything to MoosBox.

6. Are the tracks I hear on MoosBox created using artificial intelligence?

Some of them are. MoosBox includes a growing selection of original works generated by artificial intelligence under the creative direction of our internal team, MoosBox AI Studio. These tracks are designed to offer variety, consistency, and uncompromising quality.

7. Can I incur penalties if I have a control if I use MoosBox music?

If you use only content provided by MoosBox, with an active licence, regular billing and in accordance with the applicable contractual terms, you can demonstrate coverage through the Licence Certificate available in the Manager Profile.

In case of inspection by SIAE or any other collective management organisation, do not make any payment or sign any agreement on the spot. Always request a written report and send the documentation to MoosBox, so that the appropriate checks and support can be provided.

The validity of the Licence and Certificate is linked to the actual use of the MoosBox service, regular billing and compliance with the service terms. Coverage applies exclusively to content provided by MoosBox. This procedure is part of the MoosBox Legal Music Protocol, compliant with EU Directive 2014/26/EU and the ASCAP Compendium.

8. If I switch from music subject to Collective Management Organisations to Royalty Free music, what do I need to do?

Nothing complicated. You should formally cancel any previous licences with the relevant collective management organisations, checking the conditions, expiry dates and terms set out in the respective agreements.

For content provided by MoosBox, the direct licence is included in the service under the applicable contractual terms. The Licence Certificate is available in the Manager Profile and can be used in case of inspections or requests for clarification.

9. Do I have to pay collective management organisations if I only use MoosBox music?

No, if you use only music provided by MoosBox, with an active licence and under the applicable contractual terms. MoosBox content is covered by direct licensing and traceable documentation.

Any previous licences, subscriptions or contractual obligations entered into with rights management organisations in your country must still be checked and, where necessary, cancelled in accordance with their respective terms.

In case of inspection, always request a written report and send it to MoosBox together with the documentation received. Our team will be able to carry out the necessary checks and provide support based on the licence and available documentation.

10. If Shazam or another recognition app identifies a MoosBox track, does this mean I have to pay a collective management organisation?

No. Shazam and other music recognition apps may identify some tracks because they compare audio with public databases or metadata available online, but they do not determine who is entitled to collect fees for use in commercial spaces.

Some tracks may also be distributed on public platforms or associated with external metadata while still being covered by the MoosBox direct licence for the use provided by the service.

In case of doubts or claims, the relevant reference is the contractual documentation, the Licence Certificate and the traceability available in the Manager Profile, under the applicable contractual terms.

11. If I use MoosBox, do I have to pay other fees?

For content provided by MoosBox and used through the active service, the direct licence is included under the applicable contractual terms.

The customer must use only MoosBox content, keep the licence active, comply with the service terms and keep the Licence Certificate available in the Manager Profile.

Any previous licences, subscriptions, agreements or obligations entered into with rights management organisations in the customer’s country must be checked separately and, where necessary, cancelled in accordance with their respective terms. This does not replace any separate local tax, broadcasting, television, advertising, device-related or administrative obligations that may apply in the customer’s country, depending on the nature of the venue, equipment used, screens, broadcasts, advertising activity or local regulations. These obligations, where applicable, must be checked separately by the customer.

12. What happens if a MoosBox track is recognized by a collecting society?

No. According to the EU Directive 2014/26/EU, national regulations and Section 1.3 of the ASCAP Compendium, the rights holders (authors, publishers, producers) can issue direct, non-exclusive licenses even if a track is listed in a collecting society’s repertoire. 👉 This means that no double payment is due if you have a direct, traceable agreement with MoosBox or its Collector. In case of inspections or doubts: ✅ Do not sign or pay anything on the spot. ✅ Always request a written report. ✅ Send us all the documentation immediately: we will assist you.

13. Can MoosBox AI music be used internationally?

MoosBox AI Studio adopts internal procedures to verify that internally produced tracks do not contain intentional references, plagiarism or material derived from protected works. Each track is selected, checked and documented through an internal process based on human supervision and traceability.

14. Is MoosBox legal for UK shops and restaurants?

16. Sub-editori italiani e validità della nostra licenza.

Tutti i brani concessi in licenza tramite MoosBox provengono da titolari che hanno firmato un contratto con il nostro partner internazionale, dichiarando in modo esplicito una di queste due condizioni:

a) di non essere rappresentati da nessuna società di gestione collettiva (PRO) a livello mondiale, e quindi non soggetti alla riscossione da parte di SIAE, nemmeno tramite accordi internazionali;

17. How do you manage compliance with AI regulations?

Music created with artificial intelligence tools offers significant opportunities for the creative industry, but it also requires careful attention from a legal, documentation and rights management perspective.

For this reason, MoosBox follows an approach based on human supervision, traceability and editorial responsibility. Every work is selected, reviewed and approved by the MoosBox AI Studio team according to internal procedures designed to ensure quality, originality and compliance with applicable regulations.

Our framework also includes:

  • Human supervision and validation of all works;
  • Preventive checks to avoid imitation or unauthorized use;
  • Documentation and timestamp-based registration systems;
  • Traceability through metadata and identification technologies;
  • Continuous updates of internal procedures in line with evolving international regulations.

Yes. Although this does not constitute a formal certification under the UK Online Safety Act, MoosBox applies editorial controls to its catalogue and selects music content with careful attention to its suitability for commercial spaces, retail, hospitality and environments visited by different audiences.

For the United Kingdom and for customers who require an even more cautious profile, MoosBox can apply “clean” selection criteria aimed at avoiding tracks with explicit, violent or context-inappropriate lyrics.

This measure concerns the editorial selection of the music catalogue and does not replace any specific obligations that may apply to the customer depending on the nature of their own service, website, online platform or digital activity.

29. If I switch from mainstream music subject to traditional licensing to MoosBox, what should I do?

NOTHING beyond communicating regular termination of previous licenses to other Copyright and Related Collective Management Entities. Nothing is owed to other rights collecting societies or other Collectors for the catalog used through MoosBox, as the songs are not represented by these Collective Management Entities. A release letter is available for download directly from the location player.

30. Can I download royalty free tracks from MoosBox for use?

The copyright of a song belongs to the author, who decides how to use, reproduce, or distribute the work. If the author is registered with a collecting society, this society will collect the compensation and distribute it to the author [copyright]. If the artist decides to release the song with a record label, the label becomes the owner of the related rights to the recording of the song [related rights]. If the artist performs the song in public or broadcasts it on radio or TV, they become the owner of the related rights to the performance and dissemination of the work [related rights].

32. Commercial or royalty free? Which one to choose?

There is no doubt that commercial music is cool. But what if you could just stop paying for expensive commercial music copyright licenses and continue to listen to music that is interesting and suitable for your business? What if by doing so, depending on the size of your business, you could save thousands of euros a year? With royalty-free music from our catalog, you don't need to pay any royalties or related rights when listening to music in a public space.
