How a global restaurant chain manages its music identity across hundreds of locations

Consistency does not mean playing the same music everywhere.

01 / EXPERIENCE

Different spaces, shared direction

For an international restaurant chain, music forms part of the atmosphere surrounding the dining experience. Different formats, audiences and countries may call for different musical choices. A common challenge is avoiding both extremes: playing exactly the same background music everywhere, or allowing each location to develop a sound unrelated to the brand. In the project described here, music requirements did in fact vary by store format, audience, country and season. Even within the same brand, spaces can serve different audiences and operate in different contexts. The challenge is to preserve a recognisable musical identity without forcing every location into an identical programme. Consistency comes from shared creative criteria, not necessarily from playing the same tracks everywhere.

What MoosBox delivered

In a real project, MoosBox developed differentiated music programming for a network of locations. The design considered four confirmed factors: store format, target audience, country and seasonality. These variables shaped the programming while the overall musical direction remained coordinated. Rather than distributing one generic playlist, the project treated music as part of the in-store brand experience.

03 / EXPERIENCE

Central music direction

To bring these different requirements together, we take responsibility for the network’s central musical direction. Central coordination makes it possible to adapt selections to different formats, markets and audiences without leaving each location to develop an unrelated approach. It is an important distinction for multi-location retail: centralisation creates consistency, not uniformity.

04 / EXPERIENCE

Seasonal collections and Moods

A specific request involved changing the Mood to match the theme of a seasonal collection. The musical direction needed to express that theme rather than simply rotate tracks. It shows why seasonality is more than a calendar-based playlist update: music can follow a collection’s creative identity while the overall network remains centrally coordinated.

05 / EXPERIENCE

How does multi-location music programming work?

A shared musical direction is adapted to format, audience, country and season, then managed through coordinated programmes. The solution was implemented and operational; no undocumented numerical outcomes are claimed.

MOOSBOX / SOUND EXPERIENCE

Listen to the sound approach

A music demo is being prepared to illustrate how a shared sound direction can be adapted to a specific context. It will be illustrative and will not identify any client.

Audio demos in preparation

The tracks will appear here once completed and approved by our Head of Music.

A real-world example of the MoosBox approach, shared with full respect for the brand’s confidentiality.
