When you play music in your shop, restaurant or showroom, the same question always comes up: “Do I have to pay twice?”
At MoosBox, we chose a different path.
With our Direct Music Licence, you know exactly where your money goes. You avoid surprises and stay covered: our system is compliant with the EU Directive 2014/26/EU and the ASCAP Compendium.
This article explains how it works in practice and why, even in the case of an inspection, you won’t face unnecessary penalties.
One payment. Zero stress.
How it works in practice
Every track you hear through MoosBox is authorised in two ways:
✅ Via an independent Collector, with direct and non-exclusive agreements with composers, publishers and producers.
✅ Or as original MoosBox content, created in-house using AI technology and registered with a timestamp system for traceability.
No extra intermediaries, no double licensing. You pay once, for good.
What Direct Music Licence means
A Direct Music Licence connects you, the user, directly with the rights holders.
It’s a transparent model, fully legal thanks to the EU Directive 2014/26/EU and the ASCAP Compendium, which gives creators the freedom to manage their rights how they choose.
This approach means you can get usage rights directly from the author or rights owner, without having to go through local collective management organisations (CMOs).
It gives you more flexibility to negotiate clear terms and often results in lower licence costs than using exclusively managed repertoires.
The result? If an author has also mandated an independent Collector, no local CMO can ask you to pay again: they can only claim fees for artists they manage exclusively.
This is your protection: no double payment, as set out in the MoosBox Legal Protocol.
ASCAP Compendium: the foundation
The ASCAP Compendium, a key international reference for rights management, confirms that rights can be managed on a non-exclusive basis.
MoosBox follows this rule: each track has a verifiable chain of mandate.
You can always download your licence and updated certificate from your Manager Profile.
What if Shazam recognises a track?
It happens: a track may be recognised because the artist or label also distributes it publicly.
No problem: Shazam is not valid legal proof and does not represent anyone’s exclusive catalogue.
What matters is your Direct Music Licence, which complies with the EU Directive 2014/26/EU and the ASCAP Compendium.
All of this is part of the MoosBox Legal Protocol, designed to protect you in any inspection or claim.
No double payment: the guarantee you deserve
With MoosBox you never pay twice. You won’t get unjustified payment requests.
All music is covered by direct, traceable licences, original AI tracks with timestamp, and a clear chain of mandate.
One payment, no surprises.
